GAEC DE LA FAYARDAIE - Hauterives (26)

Eric FAYAN, Cédric FAYAN and Valentin BALAYE are partners in the GAEC de la Fayardaie in Hauterives (26), Drôme des Collines. While their humility means that they don’t want to steal the limelight from the Facteur Cheval, who moves the crowds in this village, they don’t mind being noticed for the excellent quality of their milk.

They produce 1,150,000 liters of IGP St MARCELLIN annually, with 95 cows milked at all times. The specifications are based on a minimum of 180 days grazing, 50% grass and 80% feed autonomy. This gives them access to a remuneration as good as the quality delivered. With an average selling price of €552 per tonne, this means a bonus of almost €52,000 for the partners over 2023!

At an average altitude of 440 meters, the 220 hectares of UAA are made up of 62 hectares of corn, 10 hectares of barley, 45 hectares of wheat, 71 hectares of permanent grassland and 32 hectares of temporary grassland.

Since 2019, with 5 appearances in the Top 100 PHF on TP, mastery is elevated to the level of art in this breeding! At an average of 10,285 liters, the genetic potential of these cows is fully expressed in terms of quality, with rates of 34 TP and 41 TB. Running on straw, this herd delivers milk with an annual average of 150,000 cells. In comparable systems, they exceed the average of their milk control group by 1 point in TB and 1.8 points in TP.

While the breeders’ daily methods guarantee quality milk, female genetics give them a significant boost.

The heifers’ average before sorting is +1.3 in STMA and positive on both rates, promising trouble-free performance in the future.

The bulls that have made their mark on the herd are LOUXOR, POULIDOR, REMEMBER, OHEME, PIKA RED, SPECULOS, and the bulls of the year are TENNIE, TOUZAC RED, TORRA, AERONAUT.

Our favorite cow is GROSEILLE, the matriarch!

The latest nugget is VICKIE, a SONIBEST daughter indexed at 190 UIS/+3.9 TP/+4.1 TB/+2.8 STMA. The GROSEILLE family also expresses itself with 3 generations in the herd. TRINITY RED, daughter of PIKA RED followed in the AURIVA program indexed at 1.9 TP and +4 TB, her dam PARPILE (Mild RED): 23,254 kg at 34.7 TP over the first 2 lactations and NOSEILLE (HERIVIA) fresh from her 5th calf, having produced 51,996 kg over the first 4 at 34.9 TP.
