This year, two new bulls, both from the Cantal region, join the AUBRAC AURIVA range: URIOS and VERSAILLES. In this article, we present these two bulls and a portrait of their breeder.
URIOS - EARL de la Boyle (15)
Born at Hervé Deconquand’s EARL de la Boyle, URIOS is the fruit of a long selection process carried out in the Cantal mountains. First set up in 2006 with his parents, Hervé now manages a herd of 65 mothers on 120 ha of natural meadows, the majority of which are located at altitudes of over 1,300 m. The farm relies on a simple diet of mountain hay and minerals.
The herd is rigorously managed: 90% of calvings are concentrated between December 15 and January 30, 80% of cows are inseminated, including 10-20% of AI crosses with YPERIOS Exc to enhance the value of Aubrac flowering heifers. Every year, several males and females are sold for breeding, including one male presented at the station.
Our selection objectives are clear: breed quality, milk and muscle development, with a homogeneous herd and docile animals. ” Above all, we’re looking for animals that are compact, deep and functional,” explains Hervé.
URIOS perfectly illustrates this strategy. Son of RAMSES (MIGNARD/CAPORAL), a compact bull with consistent production, and PARISE (LARRY/GASPARD), a 5th generation descendant of the TAILLADE breeding’s flagship line. ” This is a line of very racy, docile cows with lots of milk. PARISE was a cut above the rest, with an exemplary temperament. “explains Hervé.
URIOS thus inherits a solid lineage renowned for its dairy aptitudes, docility and racial qualities. Spotted at an early age for his phenotype, URIOS confirmed his position at the station, ranking 1st in scoring and among the best in performance.
VERSAILLES - GAEC de Belinay (15)
At GAEC de Belinay, Charlène and Xavier continue the family story, which began in 1977 when Xavier’s father André took over the family herd. In 2017, Xavier took over the farm, and in 2018 built a new 95-place stall to reinforce the infrastructure. Charlène joined the GAEC in April 2025. With a herd of 92 mothers and 200 ha of natural meadows, the farm combines modernity and tradition.
Calvings are grouped together from January to February, and the farm is characterized by its highly functional orientation: priority is given to easy calving, good legs, milk and temperament. Temperament is non-negotiable for them: ” It’s very important for ease of work “, says Xavier.
Born from a mating between SAFRAN (NICOIS/DIAMANT), a racy bull with homogeneous production, and PARISE (a daughter of CAPITAINE and the bull DAUVERGNE), VERSAILLES combines solid maternal qualities. In fact, CAPITAINE distinguished herself at the departmental show at Saint-Urcize in 2019, ranking 2nd to PARISE.
