With a latest balance sheet of 10,420kg at 41 TB and 34 TP, GAEC Lait 2 Makear is No. 10 on PHF’s top TP list. And if this ranking is so good, it’s because in the heart of the Basque Country, in MACAYE, the association of Patxi Funosas and Philippe Ibar, two neighbors, has been running perfectly well since 2010.
Genetic selection objectives are well defined, with priority given to Rates, Milk and Functions (Repro and Cells in particular). The key words at GAEC are organization and high standards. The smooth running of the farm and its performance reflect the good understanding between Philippe, the son of a breeder, and Patxi, who has set up outside the family but is passionate about breeding.
With such a small operation, dairy results are the priority in terms of both quality and quantity, but the two partners are also very vigilant about longevity and inbreeding. Taken over by Savencia, the milk is sold in its entirety.
The partners have no plans for processing, as they wish to concentrate solely on milk production. Even so, a local need for dairy cows enables them to supplement their income. “Here, all the heifers are genotyped and kept. After calving, there’s a demand for dairy cows in the area, so we can sell some through this channel.

Among the adult progeny are several LOUXOR daughters, including OHIANA, as well as daughters of NANTAIS, MISTER REY and KP CARTER. Among the youngsters, the presence of girls from ROGLIC, RAYBAN, ROMAZY and ROZYWILL is predominant.
The OHIANA VG 85 pts daughter of LOUXOR is the “perfect” cow in this breeding. In fact, in 2nd lactation at 354J, she produced 10,642 kg at 51.4 TB and 36.7 TP.
A second animal, MAKEAR 1214 B+83 pts daughter of OSAKA x LOUXOR, is off to a strong start for TP (1st lactation after 100 days of production with 3131 kg at 39 TB and 34.2 TP).
MAKEAR 1213 B+84 pts daughter of DROST x HOTLINE is also a reference in TP with, during 1st lactation in 216 days, 7,598 kg at 41.7 TB and 35.1 TP: simply remarkable results and breeders satisfied with the SYNETICS offer but also very proud of the results displayed.
